McDan to support eight Ghanaian Tennis players

Accra, Sept. 1, GNA - The Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of McDan Group of Companies, Daniel McKorley has reiterated his commitment to adopt eight players and nurture them to become the best in the discipline.

He made the commitment yesterday when he presented prizes to the winners of the recently held McDan Junior Open Championship.

Mr. McKorley said scholarships would be given to eight players who would be camped at the Winneba Sports College for their education whiles playing tennis.

They would subsequently be taken to the International Tennis Federation(ITF) center in Morocco, where they would stay for two years to further develop their skills.

Mr. McKorley said the players would be sent to the United States to continue training with the best facilities to develop their potential to the fullest.

"We have outstanding young players, especially at the Under 12 and 14 levels and with hard work and determination, they could make it to the top", he said.

"When all is done, we are certain, Ghana in a few years would be participating in the Grand Slams and rub shoulders with the best in the game", he added.

He said the performance exhibited by the kids during the Junior Championship in Accra shows that they have what it takes to become the best by age 18.

The CEO called on the players to be disciplined while in camp to develop and make the nation proud.

The winners of the Junior Open Championship were presented with a cheque of GH¢2,000, with the runners up receiving GH¢1,500, whilst the semi-finalists settling for GH¢1,000.

In all, an amount of GH¢15,500 was presented by McDan to the players, whiles two coaches, Noah Bukari Bagerbaseh and Asare Noah received $1,000 each for assisting in the development of some of the players.
