Sports News Jordan Ayew tops Swansea ratings in emphatic victory over MK Dons in Carabaro Cup
AUG 23, 2017 LISTEN

Ghana forward Jordan Ayew had one of his best games in a Swansea City shirt as he scored and set up a goal in their 4-1 trashing of League One side Milton Keynes Dons in the Carabaro Cup on Tuesday evening.

Leroy Fer grabbed a brace, while Tammy Abraham also got on the scoresheet for the Swans as they recorded their first victory of the season.

Here, we rate the players:
Kristoffer Nordfeldt 6
Played a big part in the MK Dons goal as his telegraphed pass landed Jay Fulton in all sorts of trouble and sparked the attack from which Ryan Seager found the net. Made two good saves before the break.

Angel Rangel 7
The captain for the evening was lively throughout, and could easily have had a couple of goals to his name. Had a solid evening defensively.

Kyle Bartley 7
A comfortable evening for the centre-half as he backed up his good showing against Manchester United. Looked utterly assured throughout until his worrying injury.

Mike van der Hoorn 6
Did not look as comfortable as his centre-half partner, and was rolled very easily at one point in the first half. But had a solid enough evening on his first appearance of the season.

Martin Olsson 7
Prominent throughout, the Sweden international linked effectively with Tom Carroll and his driving runs up and down the flank caused all manner of prolblems.

Jay Fulton 7
The Scot was robbed for the Dons goal, although he was given little chance by Nordfeldt's pass. Had a strong first half but he faded during the second period.

Roque Mesa 7
As on Saturday, he grew into the game. A few of his more ambitious passes did not come off, but when he created room to move the ball with one touch, Swansea invariably found space.

Tom Carroll 8
Excellent, his link with Olsson was a constant menace to the hosts and he constantly prompted with the ball at his feet. His corner set-up Fer's second and he brought a real energy to proceedings.

Leroy Fer 8
Scored six goals last season, and already has a third of that tally this term thanks to his double. Took both goals with authority, was purposeful in attack and defence and helped lift Swansea out of the self-inflicted hole they briefly dug themselves into.

Jordan Ayew 8 Star man
A lively threat although he does have a habit of taking the wrong option and undoing some of the positive qualities he brings. Run for Abraham's goal was brilliant and he finished the game strongly, deserving his goal.

Tammy Abraham 7
Off the mark and will feel a lot better for it. His miss in the early going seemed to shake his confidence and he was quiet during long periods, but showed a poacher's instinct to be in the right place for the third.

Substitutes
Luciano Narsingh (for Fulton, 75)
A couple of decent surges once the job had been done.

Alfie Mawson (For Bartley, 82)
Summoned from the bench after Bartley's unfortunate injury.

Adam King (For Carroll, 88) N/A
A late run-out for the Under-23 squad member.
