Techiman (B/A), June 2, GNA- A 106-million cedi block of three classrooms, constructed by the Parent-Teacher Association of the Techiman Secondary School has been commissioned.

Nana Antwi-Boasiako 11, Akyeamehene of the Techiman Traditional Area, commissioned the project on behalf of the Omanhene, Oseadeeyo Akumfi-Ameyaw 1V.

Nana Antwi-Boasiako said the completion of the block was a demonstration of the Association's commitment to improving the academic performance of the students.

The project, the fourth by the PTA, followed an appeal made by the Headmaster, Mr Kwame Antwi-Boasiako, for the provision of more classrooms for the increasing number of students.

He noted that the transformation of the educational sector would need the commitment of a lot of resources that the government alone could not provide, hence the need for community assistance. The headmaster expressed gratitude for the cordial relations existing between the school and parents in the development of the school, and called for the provision of more facilities to improve education in the area.

Mr Antwi-Boasiako said since the education of the child was the collective responsibility of the home, school and community, there was the need for co-operation amongst these entities to instil discipline in students.

He thanked the PTA for also constructing a fence wall around the school compound and for providing a 38-seater bus for the educational institution and asked the students to study hard to achieve academic excellence.

Mr Kwadwo Yeboah, PTA chairman, advised the students to develop the habit of reading to achieve their aims in education. He warned that henceforth any student caught destroying school property would be surcharged with the cost of damage to serve as a deterrent to others.

Mr E D Eghan, Secretary of the PTA asked the people to take good care of teachers and assured them of the Association's co-operation and assistance in promoting the education of the children.
