Akim Asamamah(E/R), May 25, GNA - In an efforts to combat the rising cases of armed robbery and other criminal activities in the area, the people of Akim Asamamah and other communities in the Atiwa District have formed neighbourhood watch committees.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency at Akim Asamamah at the weekend, the leader of the Committee, Mr Kofi Kyei said, of late farmers had been complaining of thefts of foodstuffs and threats of death on their farms by unknown people.

The situation, he said, had created panic among the citizens thereby inspiring the communities to be more alert and intensify their efforts to combat the crimes..

Some of the communities, which have also formed the committee are Akim Asunafo, Akim Akorso, Akim Abrenya and Akim Abrasuso. Mr Kyei stated that the committees operated both day and night and noted that since the formation of the groups, life had returned to normal with farmers going to their farms without fear.

A farmer at Akim Abrenya, Madam Ellen Awo, who confirmed the story said women farmers were now able to go to their farms without fear of the robbers, saying it would spur them on to continue with their farming activities.
