“Golf Is Not Meant For Only The Rich” -  Mr. Mark Cofie Jnr.

Since 1934 Achimota Golf Club has stood proud as the premier golf club in Ghana. The esteemed Achimota Golf club is now having a sturdy Captain named Mr Mark Cofie Junior who has developed himself within and out of his intellect and allegiance to take the golf club to a different level during his tuner as the captain of the club. Achimota golf club had its first Lady Captain in 1963 since the establishment of the club, and have had many precursors in the past years.

The now Gallant Captain of the Ghana Golf Association (GGA), Mr Mark Cofie Junior comes from Tsito in the Volta Region of Ghana. He started playing golf in 1991 at the Achimota Golf club. He was introduced to the game by his associates at his work place who had much interest in golfing, they persuaded him to have a try on the game. Base on his devoted and fanaticism for the love of the game and without much hesitation, he endeavoured harder to achieve his goalmouth of becoming the Captain of the prestigious Golf club like Achimota. Mr Mark Cofie Junior with His inexorable exertion has played Golf for the past 26 years in his life and he loves playing golf.

Mr Mark Cofie became the Captain of the Achimota Golf Club through an election made by the members of the club. He stated that “to become a captain in Achimota Golf Club is based on merit and the trust the members have in you as a person”. Mr Mark Cofie has a good record when it comes to playing golf and that was an advantage for him becoming the Captain of the Association. He has a tuner of two years to serve as the captain of the Association.

Mr Mark Cofie lost count of the number of trophies he has received since he started playing golf for 26 years, but still believed there is a lot to do as a young golfer. He stated unequivocally that he has never regretted playing golf and will never regret being a golfer because it has expose him to many things which has improve his life. Mr Mark Cofie Juniors interest under no circumstances lies only in playing golf but things that may beat ones imagination. Some of his interest aside golfing were cinemas, music, dancing, and cooking. He also accentuate on the recurrent times he plays golf because that is his passion and he enjoys doing that most at time without hesitation.

His expectations were high in accordance with what he wants to achieve in 10 years to come when it comes to playing golf. He emphasize on improving his Handicap from 12 to 9 and below and that requires hard work, competence and enthusiasm to achieve his tenacity as a professional golfer. He also stated that Golf is meant for everybody to play. Though the equipment’s used in playing golf is expensive, but that doesn’t guarantee one from playing if only you can afford these equipment’s, making an allowance for you knowing how to play. “Not everybody who knows how to kick a football knows how to play football” he stated.

Mr Mark Cofie also accentuated that he will sojourn or retire from playing golf only when he finds himself in his grave, he fervently indicated that “there are some hoary men and women who still play golf at their stage, so nothing can avert him from playing golf until he finds himself in the grave”.

Mr Mark Cofie being the Captain of the Achimota Golf Club Association is also being assisted by his Vice Captain, Mrs Sjocrd Grueter, Ladies Captain, Ms Peace Akwei, Youth and Academy Member, Mr Kojo Choi and other Executives in the Golf Club Association.

He is married and has three children, one son and two daughters and they all play golf.
