Raphael Dwamena made a positive statement for himself on Sunday, June 11, 2017 as he scored a brace in the Black Stars mauling of Ethiopia in the 2019 AFCON qualifier at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Playing in his first ever cap for the Black Stars ahead of Jordan Ayew and Abdul Majeed Waris, one would have thought that the phenomenal striker [Raphael Dwamena] who scored eighteen [18] goals in twenty [20] appearances for Austria Lustenau will struggle to find his feet, but the young striker rather grabbed the opportunity with ease as he propelled Ghana to beat Ethiopia 5-0.

Raphael Dwamena’s two goals was not only identical but also came in the second half [48th and 70th], as he capitalized on two basic defensive errors in the eighteen yard box of the Ethiopians to drum his name loud into the ears of Ghanaians.

Known for his quick eyes for goals and ferocious left footed shots, Raphael Dwamena was part of coach Avram Grant’s 30-man provisional squad for the 2017 African Cup of Nations [AFCON] tournament in Gabon but he couldn’t make the cut out for the final 23-man squad that represented Ghana in Gabon.

After a successful stint with FC Liefering [2014–2016], and Austria Lustenau [2016 -2017], Raphael Dwamena signed for FC Zurich on January 27, 2017 and went on to score eight [8] goals in thirteen appearances for the Swiss side.

Below is the starting line-up of the Black Stars team that gave returnee coach - James Kwesi Appiah an overwhelming home coming victory;

Richard Ofori, Harrison Afful, Lumor Agbenyenu, John Boye, Daniel Amartey, Ebenezer Ofori, Thomas Agyepong, Thomas Partey, Asamoah Gyan, Raphael Dwamena, Andre Ayew.
