MAY 31, 2017 LISTEN

The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA)’s 2017 congress and elections comes off today at the Theodocia Okoe National Hockey Pitch Conference Room.

The congress will elect the President and executive members of the GBA as well as lay out plans for the next four years.

Meanwhile, there is no contest for the top post though with incumbent President, Peter Zwennes going unopposed for the seat he first won four years ago.

Lawyer Zwennes defeated Henry Manly-Spain in the elections back in 2013, and this time, Manly-Spain is challenging for the seat of 1st Vice President against incumbent, Rabbon Dodoo in what appears the real battle in the elections.

Abraham Neequaye and Fred Ghartey are also standing unopposed for the roles of 2nd Vice-President and Treasurer respectively, the other contest in the elections is that of four executive board member positions being competed for by five candidates.

They are Lawrence Carl Lokko, Alhaji Zaed Mashed, Alhaji Murtala Tofik, Lord Isaac Acquaye and Cape Coast based Isaac Kweku Grantson as placed on the voting sheet in that order.

Lawyer Zwennes said he is the best choice to le Ghana boxing, as he does not want to leave the respected association in the hands of unqualified people to reign the sport which has given the nation fame and glory with world titles.
