Ghana’s participation at the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games in Bahamas has been approved after the Minister of Youth & Sports Hon Isaac Asiamah and the Ghana Olympic Committee President Ben Nunoo Mensah in consultation with experts agreed on the seven disciplines that the nation would be represented.

The disciplines are athletics, boxing, tennis, judo, cycling, beach volleyball and weightlifting.

According to Ben Nunoo Mensah, they decided on areas that Ghana has comparative advantage and where they can possibly win a medal.

He said each discipline would be guided by a coach who has passion for development.

This year’s Commonwealth Youth Games will come off from July 19 to 23 in Bahamas in the Caribbean, where the last time a Commonwealth programme came off was 50 years ago in 1966 in Kingston, Jamaica.

Youth between the ages of 14 and 18 years are going to compete for honors and fame in ten sporting disciplines for five days.

GOC executive board member, Mawuko Afadzinu has been appointed as Chef du Mision for the Ghana contingent for Bahamas 2017.
