Polytechnic Games continues in Sunyani

Sunyani (B/A) May 11, GNA - Takoradi Polytechnic beat their Kumasi counterparts 2-0 in the men's group "B" soccer match at the Sunyani Coronation Park on Tuesday at the on-going Ghana Polytechnic's Games. Both goals were scored in the first half.

Alogbe Edue who had earlier missed a penalty kick atoned for his mistakess when he beat goalkeeper George Amoako of Kumasi Poly in the 25th minute after he sneaked through an offside trap to register the opener.

The Takoradi lads from then maintained the pressure on their opponents and just as the first half was coasting towards the recess, Lukewarm Hamidu increased his side' lead to 2-0.

The second half was almost a carbon copy of the first half as the Westerners continued to prove their superior power but the scoreline remained the same till the final whistle.

In another match, Koforidua Poly despite the poor anticipation of their goalkeeper, Michael Quarshie, managed to inflict a painful 2-1 win over Bolgatanga Poly after they were at par 1-1 at the end of the first half.

Bolgatanga scored first through a penalty but Koforidua equalized and went ahead to grab the match winner before full time.

Results of other soccer matches played on Tuesday were, Sunyani Poly thrashed Accra Poly 3-1, Kumasi Poly bowed 0-1 to Koforidua in another encounter while Tamale Poly drew goalless with Cape Coast Poly with

Sunyani Poly having a walk over Wa Poly.

In the men's basketball played on Monday, Ho Poly defeated Sunyani Poly with a heavy 45-26 win with Tamale Poly succumbing 39-41 to Ho Poly, Takoradi Poly narrowly beat Cape Coast Poly 36-34 while Koforidua had a walk over Wa Poly.

On Tuesday, Accra Poly won 46-35 over Kumasi Poly, Bolgatanga fell six-26 (rpt 6-26) to Sunyani, Koforidua proved superior over Tamale Poly with a 50-20 win while Ho also beat Cape Coast 38-19. In the women's table tennis competition, Takoradi emerged 2-0 victors over Ho Poly whilst Sunyani defeated Kumasi Poly 2-0. Meanwhile, the second day soccer league table released by the Organising Committee of the competition copied to the GNA Sports indicated that Sunyani Poly after three matches are on top of Group "A" with seven points followed by Cape Coast with five points. Tamale Poly lie at the third position with four points followed by Accra Poly with no rpt no point from two matches.

In Group "B", Takoradi Poly leads the group with seven points with Koforidua Poly following with six points while Ho Poly also having four points.

Bolgatanga and Kumasi Poly's have a point each from their two matches played but Bolgatanga has more goals against Kumasi.
