Solomon Asante’s sterling performance steered TP Mazembe 2-0 victory over CF Mounana in their opening Group D match of the 2017 Total CAF Confederation Cup match at the Stade TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi [DR Congo] on Sunday, May 14.
The host [TP Mazembe] took the lead in the 18th minute through Tresor Mputu having been set up by Issama Mpeko. The Gabonese side [CF Mounana] maintained their composure at the back after conceding the early goal as TP Mazembe kept pressing.
Rainford Kalaba however, doubled the lead for the Congolese giants in the 50th minute when Solomon Asante ghosted his way into the goal area of the visitors to set him up.
Solomon Asante lauded the performance of veterans; Tresor Mputu Mabi and Rainford Kalaba in a post match interview:
“I must commend my teammates for this great win, especially Mputu and Kalaba, they did well and I think their experience made things simple for us today.”
“I think I played one of my best games ever today and I give God all the glory,” the skillful Ghanaian winger added.
In the other Group D match, Supersport United, otherwise known as Matsatsantsa were held Guinean side, Club Horoya AC in a 2-2 showdown at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in South Africa on Friday.
This means that TP Mazembe leads the Group with 3 points after matchday 1.
