GOC Names Members Of Sub-Committees

The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has named members of its sub-committees that will be the working arm of the GOC.

Nine sub-committees have been formed to work in line with the vision of the current administration of the GOC. These committees are; Finance, Legal/Constitutional, Anti-Doping, Olympic Solidarity/Projects, Medical, National Federations Relations, Media Relations, Events/Programmes and Fundraising, Sponsorship and Marketing sub-committees.

FINANCE
The Finance Committee shall monitor the financial management and advise the GOC Board on financial matters and asset management. It shall analyse the GOC’s budget and the financial statements prepared by the Secretary General and submit them to the GOC Congress for approval.

It will be chaired by President of the Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GTF), Mr Frederick Lartey Otu who also doubles as the Treasurer of the GOC. Other members of the committee are;

LEGAL AND CONSTITUTIONAL
The Legal and Constitutional Sub-Committee has been also been mandated to provide legal expertise to the Board and give recommendations regarding legal matters whenever needed.

They are also to assist the Board and other committees in drafting amendments to the Constitution and again advise, if necessary, on agreements between GOC and third parties. This committee will be chaired by President of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Mr Peter Zwennes and will be assisted by;

FUNDRAISING, MARKETING & SPONSORSHIP

President of the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA), Mr Mawuko Afadzinu will also chair the Fundraising, Marketing and Sponsorship Sub-committee.

This committee has been tasked to raise funds for the GOC and also position the brand of GOC to attract the needed corporate support to assist the various National Federations.

MEDICAL
The medical sub-committee shall deal with all medical aspects of the various disciplines and provide medical and sport science expertise to the GOC Board and to give recommendations on any matter regarding sports medicine.

They are also to assess and report on the medical fitness of all athletes before, during and after any Games.

The committee will be chaired by the 1^st Vice President of the GOC and President of the Ghana Volleyball Association (GVA), Mr Paul Atchoe. He will be assisted by renowned sports medical experts namely;

OLYMPIC SOLIDARITY & PROJECT
The Olympic Solidarity and Projects sub-committee shall also oversee the implementation of all Olympic Solidarity support given by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The Olympic Solidarity is mainly aimed at athlete development, training of coaches and sports administrators, and promoting the Olympic values. It will be chaired by the Secretary General of the GOC and President of the Ghana Hockey Association (GHA), Mr Richard Akpokavie. He will be assisted by;

EVENTS & PROGRAMMES
This committee will also be responsible for the planning of the GOC’s events and activations as well as come up with strategic ideas that is aimed at promoting the brand of GOC.

NATIONAL FEDERATIONS RELATIONS
This committee has been set up to enhance a smooth and cordial relationship between the GOC Board and the various National Federations.

They shall also ensure that the National Federations are in compliance with their International Federations requirements thus conducting democratic elections and electing credible and competent Board Members as well as the development and promotion of sports across the country and to practice good corporate governance at the National Federations level.

The committee will be chaired by President of the Netball Association of Ghana (NAG), Rev. Emmanuel Nikoi and will be supported by eight other members.

ANTI-DOPING
The Anti-Doping sub-committee is has also been formed to promote, coordinate and monitor the fight against drugs used in Ghana sports. The committee's key activities include advising the GOC Board on updates by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and also educate athletes on the effects of using drugs in sports.
