Police Hockey team opens title defense with win over Legon Knights

Accra, April 23, GNA - The defending champions of the Ghana Hockey League (GHL) Police male team launched an impressive start to defeat Legon Knight 5-1 to register their first win of the season on match-day of the GHL at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium in Accra on Saturday.

The teams participating in the GHL involves four categories namely the Youth, Ladies, Men's and Masters divisions.

It was a tough fixture between Police and Legon Knights but at the blast of the whistle from the umpires to signal the end of the match, it was Police who stood superior to snatch victory.

Although, Legon Knights were aggressive and pushing for a win, the defending champions proved a tougher side to beat.

The win puts the team on three points.
In other fixtures, the first ladies match was played between Ghana Police Ladies team who were the first runners' up last year. They came up against Real Ambassadors who joined the league last season. Real Ambassadors have majority of their players in the senior high schools.

At the blast of the umpires (line one Charles Obeng and line two Acheampong Kwasi) whistle, team Police recorded the earliest goal under a minute and at the end of the first half Police were leading with five unanswered goals.

From recess, the Police female team continued to bang in the goals and at the end of the 70 minutes the final scores was Police 11 Real Ambassadors 0.

The second ladies match followed up and it was between Reformers who were the 2nd runner's up last year. They beat Ark ladies 3-0 at the end of 70minutes.

The match was managed by umpires Evelyn Selorm and Ebenezer Darko Junior.

The action continues at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Saturday on Saturday.
