Accra, April 12, GNA - The Group Chairman of McDan Group of Companies, Mr. Daniel Mckorley has agreed to sponsor the National Junior Tennis team for the upcoming International Tennis Federation (ITF) and Confederation of Africa Tennis (CAT), Under-12 team tournament in Nigeria.

The tournament, which is the ITF/CAT 12 and under West and Central Africa Junior Championship, is scheduled for April 25- 30, 2017.

The competition is expected to attract 11 other countries and it is aimed at developing junior tennis at the grassroots level.

The McDan Group of Companies, has since 2013 been the backbone for the development of tennis in Ghana.

It would be recalled that his first major donation to the Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF) was a $12,500 payment of the Federation's affiliation fees to the ITF.

An act that effectively ended the suspension the GTF was serving at the time for non-payment.

The Group through their Chairman Mr. Mckorley has since invested massively into the discipline through the introduction of the McDan Open Championship, a competition that also gives talented tennis players the avenue to exhibit their skills.

The competition is in its fourth year and has also gone international with foreign participants from the neighbouring West African countries. The McDan Open West Africa now pays more prize money than some ITF/CAT backed tournaments.

He has also supported the National Ranking Tour which is also for the professional tennis players and aimed at sharpening their skills and improving their rankings on the ITF rank.

To herald this years' McDan Open West Africa, the group Chairman announced recently GH¢50,000.00 package for the renovation of the tennis court at the Accra Sports Stadium, which currently is in an abysmal state of disrepair.

Nigeria has emerged as the leading nation in the CAT Zone 2 consisting 15 countries winning the zonal tournament in the last six years.
