Bali United striker Yabes Roni has explained the circumstances which led to a near bust-up with Persib Bandung new recruit Michael Essien during a friendly fixture over the weekend.

Essien got infuriated after Roni kicked the ball in the face of the Ghanaian during Persib's 2-1 defeat to the side.

The African was clearly not happy with what he perceived as a deliberate act and—living up to his 'Bison' nickname, began chasing after Roni.

He was eventually calmed by his players and the match officials, and while Roni was dismissed, a late goal by Raphael Maitimo wasn't enough to save a draw for the Indonesian heavyweights.

But the attacker has explained the reason for his action

"Honestly it was not deliberate to kick the ball towards Essien. It was just a reflex to throw the ball,"  he said

"There was no intention to harm the Squad. As we were up by tow goals, Persib kept presssuring us and I just wanted to stop the attack."

The 34-year-old joined the the side in March after his stint with Greek giants Panathinaikos came to an end.

He opened his account on his debut in last week by scoring in a 7-0 friendly victory over Parsika Kawarang.
