The Referee Review Committee has cleared referee Samuel Sukah of any wrongdoing in the Super Clash encounter between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko last Sunday, insisting the penalty he awarded to the Accra side was the correct decision.

The panel empowered to review the performance of match officials has declared that the penalty awarded by the referee is legitimate.

According to insiders close the body the decision has been taken backed by video from the GFA camerman at the stadium after the video from television broadcasters StarTimes was inconclusive which led to arguments and accusations direction at the referee.

Sukah’s attracted controversy after his decision to award Hearts of Oak the late penalty after he adjudged Samuel Yeboah’s shot to have struck the arm of Kotoko defender Ahmed Adams in the 18-yard box.

The penalty was duly converted by Vincent Atinga to ensure Hearts of Oak beat their arch-rivals on Match Day 8 of the Ghana Premier League,

The Referees Review Committee of the Ghana Football Association met on Thursday to make a thorough postmortem on the performance of the referee, and the much-talked about decision.

However, after a thorough playback of the tape, the committee arrived at a decision that the controversial call by the Class One referee was legitimate.

Before the meeting many had expected a retrospective action by the football association to have sanctioned the referee who handled the game.
