President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Kwesi Nyantakyi has disclosed that he threw his weight behind the newly-elected President of Confederations of African Football (CAF), Ahmad Ahmad during CAF's elections.

The Ghana FA capo says that the erstwhile CAF president's time in office was due hence he decided to support the Madagascar FA boss.

"It was the time to end an era by ushering in a new administration that can change the face of CAF for the next four years," Nyantakyi said at the GFA secretariat.

Ahmad defeated long standing CAF president, Issa Hayatou, after receiving 34 votes as compared to the incumbent's 30 during last Thursday 39th Congress in Addis Ababa.

Ahmad's victory at this year's congress brings an end to Hayatou's 29-year reign at the helm of CAF after assuming office in 1988.
