Fred Lawson Dedicates WBC Silver Title To Alhaji Inusah

Ghana’s US based welterweight boxer Frederick Lawson (25 -1- 0) has dedicated his recent victory against Jamaica’s Sakima Mullings to his mentor Alhaji Inusah for supporting and guiding him to his present level as the WBCInternational Silver champion.

Frederick Lawson who won with a majority decision (116-113, 114-114 and 119-109) victory over Jamaica’s Sakima Mullings to win the vacant WBC international silver welterweight belt said it had not been easy after he suffered his first and only loss.

Despite showing signs of rust after almost 2 years out of the canvas, Lawson stood tall to claim the title at stake.

His opponent fought awkward and did not make the bout interesting, but General Okunka as Lawson is known in boxing circles pushed him back often and showed him how to box.

On a night that saw ex president JJ Rawlings and current president watching from the ringside with other dignitaries and former wotld champions like Azumah Nelson, Ike Quartey, Nana Yaw Konadu and Alfred Kotey, it could easily be proved that Ghna has potential world beaters.

Mr. Houcine Houichi, the WBC representative for Africa and president of the African Boxing Union who presented a special belt to the president of Ghana Nana Akufo Addo said Ghana is blessed with talent and they must be managed well.

Speaking to Yours Truly after the event he praised Ghana for putting up the boxing arena and hoped that the facility would be useful.

Jacob Zwennes, manager of Fred Lawson who was also happy and satisfied with the comeback of his ward noted that winning at home is going to boost his confidence and moral.

He noted that now that they have got the WBC Silver title, they would be recognized and placed in the top ratings and make them eligible to fight for the proper world crown.

The US based boxing enthusiast commended the media and supporters for helping to promote the fight.

“We have more to do in the future, we need corporate Ghana to support boxing, because the boxers do better than the footballers whom much is invested, yet they do not win anything” he said.
