Floyd Mayweather’s father has ridiculed the boxing skills of UFC star Conor McGregor, claiming: ‘I would beat his ass…and I’m a 63-year-old man!’

McGregor has been embroiled in war of words with the former pound-for-pound king for several months as talk of a potential cross-over fight rumbles on.

Though Mayweather has not fought since his victory over Andre Berto in 2015, McGregor has been spending time in the gym ahead of a potential bout.

The UFC star posted videos this week of him training alongside Irish boxer Michael Conlan in California.

But while mocking clips of McGregor sparring, Floyd Snr claimed that he would beat up the 28-year-old if his son decided against taking the fight.

‘Who is he? His boxing skills are nothing. I’d beat his ass myself. I’m not impressed at all,’ Mayweather Sr said earlier this month.

‘If my son decides he don’t want to do it, I’ll take it over, I’ll do it. And beat his ass. I guarantee you, I would beat his ass.’

Reports last week suggested terms had been agreed between Mayweather Jr and McGregor.

But ‘Money’ rubbished those suggestions and called on the UFC star to make the fight.

The 39-year-old has had a mixed relationship with his father, himself a former boxer and esteemed trainer.

But they have put aside their differences in recent years. And after watching McGregor training, Floyd Snr gave a brutal assessment of the Irish fighter.

He said: ‘If this the way he fights now, I would beat his ass. He can’t whoop me with that right [hand] there and I’m a 63 year old man.'

‘Conor McGregor is a bum!’
