Football enthusiast and pundit Mr. Kofi Amponsah popularly referred to a as 'Prof' has insisted that the agreement reached by the Ghana Football Association, the Black Stars and the Sports Ministry to reduce the bonus structure of the various national team federations is in a way is to spite the former minister Nii Lante Vanderpuye.

Speaking on Football 360 which now airs on Mondays at 7pm on Kwese Free Sports, Mr. Jesse Amponsah insisted that the move was to prove a point to the former minister that his approach was very bad that is why the ministry never caved in to his demands.

Nii Lante Vanderpuye during his time as minister was able to reduce the bonus structure of the Black Stars from $10,000 to $8,000 but incurred the wrath of both the Football Association and the Black Stars for reasons best known to them.

"They just want to tell Nii Lante that all what you want to do, we expected you to do the approach better but this minister (Hon.Isaac Asiamah) has done the approach better. I suspect that this has been done to tell the former minister that we were prepared to have done this if you had been more diplomatic," Mr. Amponsah explained.

The new Sports Minister designate Hon.Isaac Asiamah announced on Monday that the ministry had reached an interim agreement with the Black Stars regarding their bonus structure.

"We are going to have a stake holders meeting to discuss payments for all national teams but in the interim we have held a meeting with the players of the national team and they have agreed to a 50% slash in their bonuses".

"They have understood the situation we are in and also understand that the fans and the general public have spoken. The players understand this". The announcement means that the Black Stars will now earn $5000 per win at the tournament."

Hon.Asiamah also revealed that government will announce a special package of the team if they win the AFCON.

It is expected that the Black Stars will receive $ 10,000 for winning their first two games and another $5000 whether they win, draw or lose when they come up against Egypt on Wednesday.
