Cup of Nations The Best Of Ghana Yet To Come – Stephen Appiah
JAN 22, 2017 LISTEN

Ghana Black Stars became the second nation after Senegal to qualify for the Quarter Final of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon after they beat Mali in their second game.

Skipper Asamoah Gyan headed home a beautiful cross from Jordan Ayew to ensure the qualification in a game that the Black Stars played very well in the first half and the Malians came back strongly in the second half testing goalie Briamah Razak with some hot shots.

Athletico Madrid’s midfielder Thomas Partey proved his quality to earn Best Player of the Match.

The game was very historical as it recorded Asamoah Gyan’s goal as his 49th for the Black Stars and his 8th goal at the AFCON which makes him the highest Ghanaian scorer.

Egypt also pipped Uganda with a lone goal to secure qualification, but they have to face the Black Stars to decide who tops Group D and meets the runner-up of Group C.

Meanwhile, Ghanaians have started getting interested in the team after they qualified for the Quarter Final and the AFCON Fever is catching on gradually in Ghana after people showed apathy towards the Black Stars following their recent abysmal performances and demand for fat bonuses.

Stephen Appiah, former skipper of the Black Stars urged Ghanaians to rally behind the team as the best is yet to come.

He said the performance against Mali was an improvement upon the Uganda game and believes they will beat Egypt and get nine points.

Stephen Appiah, Laryea Kingson, Augustine Arhinful and Jeff Asare are guests of Fifi Banson on the GH One Sports programme, Soccer Chat that analyses the Africa Cup of Nations, Gabon 2017.
