Accra, Jan. 19, GNA - The National Sports Authority (NSA), on Wednesday launched the Senior Staff Association and outdoor a Sports Fun Bazar, which would take place on Monday, March 6, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The governing body of Ghana sports, appointed members to form the senior staff association to support the work of the management of the Sports authority, led by Mr. Joe Kpenge.

According to the NSA, the appointed staff will work with the Sports Authority for the next 4 years.

They are Mr. Kwadwo Kwarteng the Chairman of the Senior Staff Association, Mr. Ignatius Elletey- vice chairman, Mr. Charles Amofa - Secretary, Madam Christiana Ashley - Organizing Secretary, Madam Millicent Aku Sika Adu - Treasurer and Madam Margaret Shegu - Financial secretary.

According to the secretary of the staff, Mr. Amofa, the appointees are aware of the challenges of the authority and will work hand in hand with all stakeholders to achieve their vision as a group.

"We have the mandate to assist the management of the national sports authority in their day to day activities, we are aware of our own challenges and we will take it upon ourselves to find ways for NSA to achieve its aim," said Mr. Amofa

Furthermore, the NSA senior staff association assumed their term of office by outdooring a sports fun bazar for first and second cycle institutions in the Greater Accra region. The event is set to take place on Ghana's Independence Day dubbed 'Sports, a tool for discipline, career and academic excellence'

According to the NSA, most Ghanaians have little or no idea about most of the sporting disciplines practiced in the country and therefore their main objective for the event is to create awareness for all the 41 disciplines which are under the auspices of the NSA.

"We will use the day to introduce sports disciplines to our first and second cycle institutions, and we are expecting not less than 7000 students. So if the kids go to the sports hall they will get to know what Judo is, what lawn tennis or table tennis is, rugby and many others" Said the secretary.

The chairman of the Senior Staff Association, Mr. Kwadwo Kwarteng stated that sports is very instrumental in nation building but its challenging in developing it. He believes it is not the sole responsibility of the government to develop sports and for that matter all cooperate organization should support the initiative.

"With the awareness that sports cannot be developed and promoted solely by the government we are asking that philanthropists, organizations and all cooperate institutions to partner the organisers to help achieve its aim of developing sports in the country.

He further stated that 15 sporting events will be introduced to the students on the day assuring that security measures will be put in place for the safety of the all students.

'About 15 sporting events will be introduced to the students on the day, these games include Judo, Volleyball, Taekwondo, Scrabble, Tennis, handball, chess, Table tennis, Badminton, Kids Athletics, weightlifting, Arm wrestling and Basketball.

'I will also want to assure all stakeholders that their safety will not be a problem at all. We will contact the Ghana police service to provide us security personnel and also teachers will be available to protect their students. Said Mr. Kwadwo Kwarteng.
