Egypt's Africa Cup of Nations warm-up win over Tunisia was overshadowed by crowd protests and clashes with police in Cairo on Sunday night.

Supporters protesting against local club Zamalek's chairman Mortada Mansour raised banners reading 'Release our fans, execute Mansour', as riot police and plain-clothed officers tried to contain disorder.

On the field, Al Ahly striker Marwan Mohsen scored the only goal of the game to hand the hosts a 1-0 victory.

Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny and Stoke City's Ramadan Sobhi started in a side that initially laboured but found the winner in second half stoppage time when Mohsen found the corner after taking a pass from Kahraba.

It was Egypt's final pre-tournament friendly before they launch an AFCON campaign that sees them start against Ghana, Uganda and Mali in Group D.

The two sons of former Egypt president Hosni Mubarak, Alaa and Gamal Mubarak, were in attendance as protests were also focused on the nation's government.

Bottles and torn up seats were pictured being thrown in the stands in clashes with riot police.

Of the game, Egypt manager Hector Cuper said: 'We did not show our best during the game, but the results are going in the right direction.'

Tunisia are in AFCON Group B and play Algeria, Zimbabwe and Senegal.
