Kofi Annan Nominated For Award
Mr Kofi Annan, the secretary-general of the United Nations, has been nominated as the recipient of the coveted Global Excellece Award.
It is sponsored by the Millennium Excellence Award and under the distinguished life patronage of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, and chaired by Dr Kwabena Duffour.
The award for the global excellence is bestowed on a respected citizen of Ghana, who has gained global excellence and won the hearts of millions of people worldwide for championing the cause of peace and the eradication of hunger and poverty worldwide.
Giving the Daily Graphic an insight into the 2005 Millennium Excellence Awards, Mr Kofi Yankah, event co-ordinator and executive chairman of Dateline Marketing Limited, said that Mr Annan would be presented with the award on June 25 this year by the life patron, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, and the presentation would be witnessed by various invited very prominent local and international dignitaries.
The awards ceremony is organised every five years and Mr Annan is expected to come personally to receive his award at a ceremony to be held in Accra.
According to diplomatic sources in Ghana, the award is timely and would boost not only the image of Mr Annan but the United Nations in general.
