President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi who grew up in Wa marks his 47th birthday on Thursday.

Kwesi Nyantakyi first association with the GFA happened in early 2000 as a member of the Judicial Committee of the association.

Before that time, he had served as Accra rep and secretary of some clubs.

Nyantakyi in 2004 was elected as the Vice Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), which automatically made him the Vice Chairman of the GFA.

And when Nyaho Tamakloe, the GFA Chairman was forced to resign in 2005, he assumed post as the acting Chairman, before he beat off competition from Kojo Bonsu and Ade Coker.

Nyantakyi was re-elected as GFA President in 2011 and 2015.

In 2011 he was elected the President of West African Football Union (WAFA) zone B and was re-elected in 2015.

He was elected to on the CAF Executive Committee and in 2016 elected onto the the re-constituted FIFA Executive Council.

Achievements
Under his watch Ghana have qualified for three consecutive FIFA World Cups: 2006, 2010 and 2014.

In 2010 the Black Stars reached the quarter finals of the mundial to become, the third African country to reach that stage.

In 2009, the Black Satellites, became the first African side to win the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt
