OCT 20, 2016 LISTEN

Egypt striker Ahmed Zidan says the Pharaohs will defeat Ghana in both the 2018 World Cup qualifier and at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

The two sides were drawn in the same group along with Uganda and Mali for Africa's flagship football tournament on Wednesday following the draw in Gabon.

The two sides are also in the same group in the qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup and will clash next month in Alexandria in Group E for the tournament to be held in Russia.

The former Borussia Dortmund attacker says Egypt will defeat Ghana in the two matches to be played within two months insisting the Pharaohs are on the rise.

'Falling in the same group as Ghana and Uganda is beneficial to us. Beating them in the World Cup Qualifiers will earn the players more confidence to beat them again in the AFCON,' Zidan told DMC Sports Channel.

'Mali is a strong team. This generation of Egyptian footballers went through a lot of obstacles like the absence of the fans from Stadiums. However, we passed all these difficulties and the next period will be a great one for Egyptian football,' he added.

'Comparing this generation to the past ones makes things harder for them. For instance, in 2010 we won against Ghana in the AFCON final with experience and self confidence, although they were physically way better than us,' he continued.
