Kumasi, March 2, GNA - Ash Town Ladies will defend the trophy they won at last year's Women's gala when the Ashanti Regional Women's soccer gala competition commences on Monday, March 7. Briefing the GNA Sports in Kumasi on Tuesday, Madam Cecilia Anane, Chairperson of the Regional Women's Football Association said this year's competition had been made much more attractive with the inclusion of cash prizes and a trophy at stake for the eight participating clubs.
Madam Anane said the participating teams are made up of Fabulous Ladies, Osei Tutu Ladies, Ash Town Ladies, Oforikrom Ladies, Kumasi Ghatel Ladies, Sunyani Ghatel Ladies, Envoy Ladies and Maradona Ladies. She said that the champion would take home cash prize of 200,000 cedis and a trophy, whilst the first runner-up will receive 150,000 cedis with the second runner-up receiving 100,000 cedis.
Madam Anane said this year's competition which is to be sponsored by the National Sports Council, (NSC) would serve as preparations for the participating teams towards this year's Ashanti Regional Women's League which is expected to start at the later part of March. She urged the participating teams to be disciplined to ensure the success of the competition and also called on Ghanaians to be committed to the development of women's football.
