Atlantic and VALCO beat them all

Cape Coast, Feb. 27 GNA - Atlantic Hall bagged 123-and-half points to lift the championship trophy in the 37th Annual Inter Halls Athletic competition of University of Cape Coast (UCC) held at the University sports grounds on Saturday.

Oguaa hall took the second position with 96-one-third points, New hall came third with 57-and-half points, VALCO hall was fourth with 50 points while Casely Hayford hall placed fifth with 19 points. In the women division, VALCO hall won with 80 points, Atlantic hall came second with 79 points, Oguaa hall placed third with 66 points, Adehye hall, fourth with 25 points while New hall came fifth with 24 pints. Three records were broken in the two-day competition. Mathew Boateng of Atlantic hall set a new record in the 800 metres. He was timed 1:59:73secs as against the previous record of 2:05:06secs. Abednego Azango of Atlantic hall set a new record in the javelin competition with a throw of 52.02 metres against the previous record of 51.38 metres.

Ms fate Larley of VALCO hall produced a new record in the 1,500 metres. She was timed 5:32:9secs as against the previous record of 5:39:7secs. Professor Kobina Yankson, pro-vice Chancellor of the University commended the athletes for their wonderful performance and asked them to keep it up. He also congratulated the spectators and the athletes for comporting themselves and creating a congenial atmosphere to ensure a successful end of the competition. Professor Yankson assured the athletes that the University would give them the necessary encouragements to enable them keep the flag of UCC flying high.
