Ghana’ Theodocia Okoh Stadium is the venue for the 2016 World Hockey League Round 1 for Africa which will feature teams from Ghana as host, Kenya, Nigeria and Namibia in both male and female categories to determine who takes a step closer to the next Hockey World Cup in 2018.

The event has been scheduled for September 9, 2016 and the much awaited 2016 World League Round 1 will access the level and standard of African Hockey players and their organization.

According to Daniel Kenaz Mensah, Secretary General of the Ghana Hockey Association preparations are underway as Ghana gets ready to host its first major tournament since 2012.

He said Ghana's male and female national teams are expected to compete and emerge top of the competition in order to qualify for the second round of the World League in February 2017.

Furthermore, for the Ghana team, this tournament is an opportunity to build enough ranking points to enable them qualify for the next Commonwealth Games to be held in Gold Coast, Australia, in April 2018.

According to Danny Mensah, the Ghana Hockey Association believes that with dedication from our players and technical team and with support from Corporate Ghana and well-meaning individuals, the tournament will be a success.

“As always, we urge all hockey enthusiasts and supporters, our media partners and the general public to support us organize and deliver a successful tournament” he added.
