Adisadel College Show Class At Citizens Int. Hockey Tournament

Adisadel College of Cape Coast put up a wonderful display to win the maiden edition of the Citizens International Inter-schools Hockey Tournament at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Pitch, in Accra.

The tournament, was held to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Citizens International Hockey Club and also to honour the late madam Theodosia okoh and Dr. Emmanuel Evans-Anfom for their various contributions to the development of hockey in the country.

The tournament which drew some selected educational institutions was won by Adisadel College for the male category,as they beat Prempeh College to the trophy on a superior head-to-head aggregate after the two schools were tied on same points, as Adisadel had beating Prempeh 4:0 on penalties earlier in the tournament.

Yaa Asantewa SHS also won for the female category showing their superiority over Wesley girls school and Achimota School to record the heaviest score line in regulation time by beating Wesley girls by 5:0.

The one day tournament saw schools who are noted for playing hockey like, Achimota School, Adisadel College, Mfasipim School, St. Augustines College, Prempeh College, Wesley girls and Yaa Asantewa girls school compete for the trophy at stake.

The tournament was sponsored by NDK Financiers, SG SSB Bank, Latex Foam Limited and Ever pure drinking water.

The coach of St. Augustine's College noted that most of his boys are new to the game, and they promise to come back in big style. He praised the Adisadel boys and was happy that the trophy went to the Central Region.

enterprising and ubiquitous Ben Kwofie of Adisadel who won the hearts of the spectators andmy best player in the event said he has been playing for Tema Youth ans hopes to take hockey to a higher level. He promised to play for the national team and any of the big clubs in the country when he completes his tertiary education.

The event saw the students being given some counseling from dr. K.D. Asante, Nii teiko Evans Anfom, dr. Nii Ni Ashong and Professor Armah, all former hockey stars.

Dr. K/D. Asante Chairman of the Citizens Club said the event was a success and he thanked the sponsors. He hinted that it would be expanded with other schools to participate. He commended the players and urged them to study very hard at sxchool to realise their dream careers and use sports such as hockey to link up and create good friends.
