Bayern confirm Kuffour Bid

Bayern Munich have confirmed they are considering an offer from Newcastle United for Samuel Kuffour.

The Ghanaian defender has emerged as the latest transfer target for Magpies boss Graeme Souness, who is anxious to strengthen his rearguard.

Souness has already brought in France international Jean-Alain Boumsong from Rangers and has failed with a bid for Manchester City captain Sylvain Distin.

He is also aiming to strike a deal for Kuffour, who is out of contract with German giants Bayern at the end of the season.

Kuffour's agent has intimated the African is willing to move to The Premiership and feels Bayern will accept a nominal fee for the centre half now, rather than receive nothing in the summer.

Bayern are currently at a winter training camp in Dubai, where they acknowledged Newcastle's offer is on the table.

But Bayern's general manager Uli Hoeness has revealed the club will not accept any offers for Kuffour, until they are instructed that the player wants to leave the Bavarian side.

"Only then [when Kuffour tells us he wants to leave], will we talk about it," said Hoeness.

"We do not send anybody away."
