Car knocks down jubilant Kotoko fan

Tepa (Ash), Jan 5, GNA - Akwasi Ababio, a 28-year-old refrigeration mechanic and a supporter of Kumasi Asante Kotoko who was knocked down by a car on Sunday while celebrating his team's goal against archrivals, Accra Hearts of Oak, died while being conveyed to the Tepa Government Hospital.

Eyewitnesses told the GNA Sports that the deceased was on jubilant mood on the road near the Tepa Circuit Court junction holding a Kotoko flag when he was knocked down by an Opel Kadett saloon car.

According to the Tepa Police, the driver of the car failed to stop to attend to the victim and passers-by had to put him in another car but he died on the way.

The Police said the suspected driver, Hardy Amankwah who was travelling from Brosankro to Maabang has since been arrested and placed in police custody to help in investigations.

Meanwhile, the body of Amankwah has been deposited at the Tepa Hospital for autopsy.
