Kumasi, Nov 08, GNA - The Electoral Commission (EC) will introduce the Poll Book and the Identification Check List at polling stations in December to ensure registered voters are not disenfranchised. Mr Samuel Yorke Aidoo, the Ashanti Regional Director of the EC, explained that the Poll Book contained the names and particulars of all people who registered.

If a registered voter's name were not found in the register, his or her name and particulars would be checked in the book.

The ID Check List contains the identification of registered voters and it would be used to check the name and photograph of a voter whose picture does not appear in the register.

He was speaking on the topic "The Electoral Process" at a one-day workshop organised by the Kumasi Archdiocesan Justice and Peace Commission for about 205 election observers in Kumasi on Saturday. The observers were drawn from the four deaneries and these are Asawase, Nyinahin, Suame and Kumasi.

Mr Aidoo said the introduction of the Poll Book and the ID Check List was to ensure that no registered voter was denied the right to cast his or her vote.

He told the observers that election observation had become an indispensable part of elections and that ''the commission takes reports of election observers seriously and acts on them.''

Mr John Nyarko, Co-ordinator for the workshop, said election observers' presence at polling stations would give confidence to voters.
