Female football legend and icon, America Mia Hamm is expected in Port Harcourt for the 29 November, 2004 international novelty football match tagged "Friends of Mercy Akide" and rest of the world, in honour of Nigeria's foremost female footballer, Mercy Akide who is getting married on 28 November. Nigeriasports.com understands. Hamm has been the face of women's football since she made her international debut for the USA at the tender age of 15.

In her amazing international career as a striker she won both Olympic gold and the World Cup, scoring over 100 goals for her country.

Also expected are United States world cup and Olympic winners Julia Fowdy and Judy Fawcett who- Akide's team mates in the WUSA League.

The friends of Mercy Akide squad incudes Ann Chiejine, Precious Dede, Oge Onyinanya, Felicia Eze, Faith Ikidi, Effioanwan Ekpo, Florence Omagbemi (USA), Yinka Kudaisi, Kome Williams, Sabi Akudo, Maureen Mmadu (Norway), Stella Mbachu, Ngozi Onwubiko, Celina Akide, Vera Okolo, Ajuma Ameh, Cynthia Uwak, Gloria Usieta (Greece). The team will be coached by Coach Ismaila Mabo.

According to China Acheru, a member of the organising committee the "Rest of the World" team will feature Portia Modise, Lydia Monyepao, Veronica Phewa (South Africa) Memunatu Suleimana, Alberta Sackey and African Footballer of the year, Adwoa Bayor(Ghana) Stephanie Mekongo, Anong Bernadette Zang, Lydienne Njolle and Mete Zogo (Cameroon).

The game billed for the Port Harcourt Liberation Stadium the day after the wedding ceremony will also witness the attendants of who-is-who in the Nigerian sporting and political scene.
