200 golfers to vie for Tema Mobitel Open trophy

Tema, Oct. 11, GNA - More than 200 golfers would assemble at the Tema Country Golf Course on Saturday, October 30 to vie for this year's Tema Mobitel Open Golf Championship trophy.

Mr Ebenezer Adablanu, Chief Executive Officer of the club, who announced this at Tema on Monday, said the two-day 36-Hole Scratch competition being sponsored by Millicom Ghana Limited, would be played under the rules of the Royal Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews of Scotland, the World's golf governing body and the local rules of the Tema Country Golf Club.

It is open to amateur, professional and youth golfers throughout the country.

He said the club has started a face-lift of the golf course to ensure a suitable play.

Mr Adablanu said so far about 100 golfers have registered for the competition and that the number is expected to increase when the registration closes on October 20.

Among the array of golfers who had registered for the competition that has about 21 trophies at stake include Felix Owusu-Adjapong, Former Captain of the Tema Country Golf Club, and now Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Alex Fiagomey and John Cobbina, all of Tema with Mike Maguire, Michael Aggrey and Samuel Adetola coming from Achimota Golf Club.

The Professionals event of 72-Hole, would begin on Wednesday, October 28, and end on Sunday, October 31.

Mr Soba Pasha, Managing Director of Millicom Ghana Limited said the company would continue to give the necessary assistance in the development of the sport as its corporate responsibility.

Mr Joe Aggrey, Deputy Minister for Education, Youth and Sports is to be the Special Guest of Honour.
