Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea's expected move to Real Madrid was apparently scuppered when the paperwork did not arrive at the Spanish league on time - and hilarity subsequently ensued.
Although De Gea had reportedly signed his new contract, the relevant documents had not arrived in time for him to be registered, so the deal was dashed just as the United goalkeeper was preparing to be unveiled at the Bernabeu.
As ever, social media was awash with jokes and United's Ed Woodward was, perhaps very unfairly, held responsible by many for the apparent cock-up.
