Accra, Sept 27, GNA - The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has sent a congratulatory message to the Black Queens for their heart-warming performance at the on-going fourth African Women's Championship (AWC) in South Africa.

"We have followed with keen interest your excellent display of Ghanaian football skills resulting in the conquest of all who have come your way".

A Press Release signed by Mr Emmanuel Gyimah, Deputy General Secretary of the association made available to the GNA Sports said the GFA as well as Ghanaians have followed their success story with joy. He said the GFA was appreciative of the efforts of the Queens that has seen them recording a clean sheet with incredible performances against the host national, Banyana Banyana, Ethiopia and Zimbabwe in the group stages of the two-week fiesta.

He assured the team of the nation's confidence in their capability of scaling the semi final hurdle when they lock horns with their Cameroonian counterparts at the Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg on Tuesday.

"We are optimistic that you will remain focused and bring home the ultimate".

The Queens got to the semi final stage with a 3-0 drubbing of host, South Africa in the opening game, a 2-1 hard fought victory against a determined Ethiopian side and a 2-0 convincing win over Zimbabwe in the group games.

Tomorrow's semi final encounter would be the second time both teams are meeting at the same level. The last time they crossed swords was in the last competition held in Warri, Delta State, Nigeria, where the Queens profited from the golden rule goal in extra time from the effort of the current African Queen, Adjoa Bayor, to book a place in the grand finale which they lost to the Super Falcons of Nigeria.

The indomitable Lioness rode on the wings of partisan home crowd to pull even, late in the game after Mavis Djangmah and Nana Ama Gyamfuah had shot the Queens ahead.

It took a late first half extra time strike from Bayor who went solo with her amazing dazzling skills before displacing the advancing Cameroonian goalkeeper to book the final ticket.
