Sportnet beat Saint Mirren in a league match

By GNA

Oblogo, Sept. 20, GNA - A spirited performance exhibited by a ten-man Oblogo based Sportnet football club on Sunday beat Mamprobi Saint Mirren 2-1 in their Division one league match at Oblogo. It was St. Mirren who piled up pressure on Sportnet right from the blast of the referee's whistle, earning three corner kicks within 15 minutes but wasted the chances to score.

The Oblogo boys contained the pressure and on one of their counter-attacks they nearly got a goal but the splendid performance of the St. Mirren goalie denied them the chance to find the opener. St. Mirren's Abdul Braimah in the 32nd minute capitalised on a defensive blunder by the defence of Sportnet to score the first goal to the dismay of the home fans to end the first half.

The second session saw a charged Sportnet side putting the pressure on the visitors to get the equaliser but the referee demoralised them when he showed keeper Abubakari Alhassan the red card for insulting behaviour.

The red card rather infuriated the Oblogo boys who forced St. Mirren to play defensively and Livingston Logo in the 55th minute took control of a loose ball to fire a long-range shot for the needed equaliser for his side.

Charles Amoah of Sportnet increased the tally in the 85th minute with a classic goal to bring the final scores to 2-1 in favour of the homesters.

Mr. Archibald Lamptey of Accra Hearts of Oak fame, coach of Sportnet told the GNA Sports that his team won because of their consistency in training and their desire to achieve results.

He said that when the team lost its goalie, he decided to strengthen the defence and play one player upfront with occasional counter-attacks and the strategy worked to perfection. At the same venue on Saturday, Ken Harrison Babies beat Oblogo Nikwabs' Babies 1-0 in their Under 17 league encounter of the Accra Metro Colts league.

Samuel Affum scored the only goal of the match for Harrison Babies in the 50th minute. In their U-14 encounter, Harrison Babies also beat Nikwabs 2-0.
