Mention the name,Ghana in Greece and Ofori Quaye follows. Peter Ofori quaye is a household name in Greece.
The former Ghanaian international endeared himself to the soccer fans of Greece and made a very big name for himself and for that matter Ghana as a result of his consistent performance for a local club side Olympiakos few years ago.
Upon arrival at Airport, the immigration Officer at the counter realizing we were Ghanaians asked us if we knew 'Ofari Quayi'-as it is mentioned in Greece. When we boarded a taxi from athens to our Hotel in the Port City of Pireaus the driver did not collect the 10 euros we were supposed to have paid because we responded in the affirmative when he asked us if we knew Ofori Quaye.
On monday when a contingent of Ghanaian journalists here in Greece took a trip to the newly built Olympiakos stadium complex, the story was not different as everybody, including the officials of the club had fond memories about the Ghanaian striker.
The popularity of Ofori Quaye in Greece could be compared with the fame Tony Yeboah and Abedi pele earned for themselves in Germamy and France respectively.
Where is Peter now? Why has he faded so soon?
