By GNA

Kumasi, Aug 19, GNA - Kumasi King Faisal on Thursday beat Accra Great Olympics 1-0 in the first leg quarter-final GHALCA Special Knockout football competition at the Kumasi Sports stadium. Godwin Ablordey scored the only goal in the 19th minute through a spot kick after Eric Gawu was fouled in the penalty box. Olympics should have taken the lead in the 16th minute but Osei Bonsu shot wide after goalkeeper Suraj Mohammed mistakenly kicked the ball to him.

John Cudjoe of Olympics also blasted away an opportunity in the 41st minute after receiving a neat pass from Joe Tagoe. Faisal should have increased their lead in the 55th minute but Eric Gawu after disposing of two Olympics defenders shot into the waiting hands of goalkeeper Theophilus Mensah. Olympics from then on took full control of the game and pinned Faisal to their own half but they could not utilise the numerous chances that they created until the final whistle.
