Accra, Aug 13, GNA - Wonder club, Accra Great Olympics and scientific soccer lads Liberty Professionals will play the opening game of the novelty Homowo Tournament dubbed "LG Homowo Cup" which commences on August 27 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The tourney, which is being organised by Phoenix Consult Limited in conjunction with Global Media Alliance for the four premier league clubs in Accra, is meant to round off the annual Ga Homowo festival. Somotex Ghana Limited, distributors of LG electronics are the official sponsors of the tournament after committing 120 million cedis into the three-day event, whilst Unique Insurance Company have also provided a 500 million cedi insurance package for the tournament with additional 10 million cedis cash.
Both companies affirmed their commitment to the tourney at a launching ceremony in Accra on Thursday when they handed over the cheques at a ceremony where the organisers made the pairings for the tournament.
Representatives of the four clubs, Accra Great Olympics, Accra Hearts of Oak, Liberty Professionals and Real Sportive witnessed the event with the clubs affirming their commitment to the event by signing the deal.
According to the pairings, Accra Hearts of Oak will take on newly promoted premier league side, Tema Real Sportive in the second match at the same venue.
Winners of the two matches are therefore scheduled to meet in the finals of the 120 million cedis competition on Sunday, August 29. Each club was presented with a cheque for 20 million cedis as preparatory money at the ceremony while an arrangement has been made for the clubs to benefit from part of the gate proceeds.
The winner of the tourney will take home 15 million cedis with the runners up pocketing 10 million cedis.
