Sakumono (GAR), July 24, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor on Saturday said the government is committed to provision of quality education at all levels since this is the only way the country could acquire the needed human resource for rapid development.

He said the challenges posed by the new global environment also required that education was given the attention that it needed. President Kufuor's speech was read on his behalf by Mrs. Lucky Kwapong, Tema Municipal Director of Education, at the First Speech and Prizing Day of the Sakumono School Complex at Sakumono near Tema. He called for the creation of an enabling environment to achieve quality education through the provision of effective leadership, positive teachers attitude and a high level of discipline in the organisation of curriculum.

President Kufuor noted that effective utilization of contact hours meant that teachers must attend school regularly and ensure minimum disruption of classes.

"It is important for teachers to set homework frequently and engage in objective pupils' assessment and feedback," he said. Mr Dominic G. Nyame, Headmaster of the school said the aim of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) for establishing the school was to ensure the total development of children in the Sakumono community.

He said a sound educational system was a basic necessity and the surest way for the development of the nation and appealed to Ministry of Education to provide teachers with the logistics for effective teaching and learning. 24 Jul 04
