Northern Region win Under-15 soccer trophy

Kumasi, June 27, GNA- Northern Region put up a splendid performance to beat Eastern Region 2-1 to end the weeklong National Sports Festival at the Kumasi Sports Stadium on Saturday.

Northern Region who until the final match had not conceded any goal, got to the final by beating Upper East Region 3-0, spanked Brong-Ahafo Region 7-0, beat Ashanti Region 1-0, drew 0-0 with Western Region and went on to beat Central Region 3-0 with Adam Abdallah scoring six out of the 14 goals.

Eastern Region before the final match had scored 16 goals by making mince meat of Western Region with a 10-1 score line, beat Greater Accra Region 2-1, pipped Upper West Region 1-0, lost 0-2 to Central Region and went on to beat Brong-Ahafo Region 3-0 with Isaac Asare scoring six of their goals.

When the match got underway under the instructions of referee Stephen Oduro of Kumasi, it was obvious that the Northern boys were going to carry the day from the way they got into a flying start. With skilful passes and accurate shooting at goals, it therefore came as no surprise when they got the opener in the 20th minute through Adam Abdallah with a beautiful goal.

Hardly had the jubilation died down when Paul Odame of Eastern Region got the equaliser to bring the first half to an end. Northern Region, determined to carry the day, restored their lead in the 50th minute through Awudu Razak when he connected home an in swinger to carry the day.

Central Region beat Brong Ahafo Region 2-1 to take the third position.
