Golfers gear up for Peugeot Championship

GNA

Accra, June 21, GNA - The final segment of the qualifiers to this year's Peugeot golf championship tees off at the Celebrity Golf Course in Tema this Saturday.

Crack golfers from the southern sector, which includes Eastern, Central and Greater Accra regions, are expected to battle it out for a place at the lucrative Peugeot Championship.

The Championship is to be divided into four categories - the male, female, seniors and juniors categories - of which the winners in both male and female divisions would represent Ghana at the Paris Championship next month.

Already, Kumasi and Damang have selected their golfers to represent the Ashanti and Western regions respectively at the June 26th Peugeot Championship at the Achimota Golf Course after successful qualifiers. A spokesman for the Celebrity Golf Course told the GNA Sports on Monday that as a prelude to the qualifiers, the Tema monthly medal competition was pushed forward and was held last week to fine tune the competitors for the big championship.

More than 65 golfers made up of 40 male, 20 female and three each of seniors and juniors respectively are expected to represent Ashanti Region alone but the number of qualifiers from the Western Region is yet to be known.
