The leader of the CAF Inspection Team, Patrick Okpomo, has advised the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and the CAN 2008 Bid Committee to do total rehabilitation of the various pitches and also improve upon the quality of facilities in the washrooms, dressing rooms and clinics.

He also tasked the ministry to ensure that television transmission during matches, is not disrupted in anyway, should Ghana win the bid to host the tournament.

While disclosing that the team was impressed with what they saw, Okpomo also advised that some equipment installed at some hospitals should be made operational while some hotels needed improvement.

Mr Okpomo made these observations when the three-man team paid a courtesy call on the sector minister, Hon. Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu to brief him about the four-day inspection of the sites and facilities in connection with the nation's bid to host the 2008 edition of the African Nations Cup.

According to the team leader, training pitches should be closer to the hotels to make things easy for participating teams to train on them at least twice a day, adding that a minimum of two training pitches should be at each match venue while the texture of the training pitches should be the same.

In response, Mr Baah-Wiredu thanked the inspection team for the work done and assured them of government's readiness to work on all the recommendations made by the team. He reminded them that the contents of their report to CAF would very much influence Ghana's chances of winning the right to host the 2008 African Cup of Nations.

Present at the occasion were the Chairman of the CAN 2008 Bid Committee, Dr Kofi Amoah, GFA Chairman, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe, Minister for Tertiary Education, Miss Elizabeth Ohene, Prof Christopheer Ameyaw-Akumfi, Minister of Ports, Harbours and Railways and Dr Kwaku Afriyie, Minister of Health.

Others were the Mayor of Accra, Stanley Nii Agyiri-Blankson, Mrs Elizabeth Adjei, Director of Immigration Service and Prof Agyeman Badu Akosa, Director-General of the Ghana Health Services. They all briefed the team about the readiness of their respective sectors to play the needed roles to ensure the success of the tournament should Ghana win the bid to host it.
