Sunyani (B/A) June 5 GNA - The Brong-Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council has directed Municipal and District Assemblies in the Region to sponsor the first-ever women's football league in the Region scheduled to take off on Saturday, June 26.

Mr Daniel Osei Gyimah issued a circular in Sunyani on behalf of the Regional Co-Ordinating Director saying the directive was by the Regional Minister, Nana Kwadwo Seinti in response to the Regional Women Football Association's appeal to the Council for sponsorship for the league. The circular explained that the assistance from the Municipal and District Assemblies would enable the leaders of the women's groups to pay for the affiliation fee of 500,000 cedis per club and register their players.

It noted that women football had come of age and there was the need for the 13 Assemblies in the Region to contribute financially or in kind to boost the morale of women clubs in their areas.

Meanwhile, seven out of the 13 registered clubs in the region have paid their affiliation fees.

Mr. Kwabena Munufie, Secretary of the Brong-Ahafo Regional Football Association told the GNA Sports that the seven clubs were Penest Academy Ladies, Golden ladies, Ghatel Ladies, all based in Sunyani, Abisco Ladies of Abirikasu and Victory Ladies from Atuna, both in the Jaman District, Biadan Future Ladies in the Berekum District and Nsoatreman Ladies from Nsoatre, near Sunyani.

Mr. Munufie said the six clubs yet to pay the fee were Techiman Super Tropics, Abayoyo Ladies, Kumapim Ladies, Phobia Ladies, all from Japekrom, Dormaa Aduana Ladies of Dormaa-Ahenkro and Nkoranza Star Ladies.

He reminded the clubs that the deadline for the payment of the fee was Saturday, June 19, and added that the Women's Football Association has also arranged a gala competition for registered and affiliation fee paid-up clubs at the Sunyani Coronation Park on June 19.
