Kotoko fan commits suicide

ADENTA, MAY 31, GNA - A 35-year old driver's mate and an ardent supporter of Kumasi Asante Kotoko football club, Mr. Yaw Ampofo hanged himself on a neem tree with a nylon sponge on Sunday night at Adenta in Accra.

Speaking to GNA Sports, a relative of the deceased, Mr Kingsley Yaw Appo, a driver at Adenta said after the Kotoko team lost their match by 6-3 aggregate to the Algerian team, his relative,

Mr Appo said as a result of the defeat he could not bear the teasing from his friends and therefore decided to get heavily drunk. Ampofo was said to have earlier teased the supporters of Hearts of Oak over their defeat and said he had the confidence that his team, Kokoto will definitely emerge winners but they also later suffered a similar defeat.

He said when later Ampofo's relatives retired to bed that night, he quickly climbed a nearby neem tree and hanged himself. When the GNA contacted the Madina Police it confirmed the incident. Meanwhile the body of the late Yaw Ampofo has been deposited at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital awaiting post mortem examination.
