Justin Gatlin continues fine form, David Rudisha returns

While the American was successful, Kenyan David Rudisha could only manage seventh in his return from injury.

Gatlin produced a wind-assisted time of 9.76 seconds to take out the 100m ahead of countryman Michael Rodgers (9.80s) and Frenchman Jimmy Vicaut (9.89s).

Gatlin, 32, believes he can go close to breaking Usain Bolt's world record time of 9.58s.

"My start wasn't the best, like it's been this year, but my second half I came on strong," he told the NBC .

"If I piece both (halves) of my races together, I think I can go 9.6s."

Rudisha, racing for the first time in over a year due to a knee injury, faded late to finish seventh in the men's 800m as Botswana's Nijel Amos won.

Ethiopian Mohammed Aman and Sudan's Abubaker Kaki made up the podium.

American Will Claye (17.66m) broke the meeting record on his way to winning the men's triple jump and Frenchman Renaud Lavillenie (5.8m) was a comfortable victor in the men's pole vault.

Jamaican Kaliese Spencer took out the women's 400m hurdles in a time of 54.29 seconds, the best time in the event in 2014.

Her countrywoman Novlene Williams-Mills edged to glory in the 400m.

Russian Anna Chicherova produced the best jump of the year in the women's high jump, clearing 2.01 metres, and Ethiopian Sofia Assefa claimed the women's 3000m steeplechase.

Czech Vitezslav Vesely easily won the men's javelin and Kenyan Hellen Obiri took out the women's 1500m.

France's Pascal Martinot-Lagarde (13.13s) edged Jamaica's Hansle Parchment (13.20s) to win the men's 110m hurdles.

Other winners included Tori Bowie (women's 200m), Caleb Mwangangi Ndiku (men's 5000m) and Ayanleh Souleiman (Bowerman Mile).
