Ghana's Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Hon. Rasheed Bawa, has declared that the country's U-23 National Team, the Black Meteors are targeting the gold medal at the football event of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.
Bawa made the declaration while speaking in an interview with ghanaweb during the finals of the First Academicals Football Championship, in Lagos, Nigeria, last Saturday.
In his words: “We are going to Athens with one objective, that is to get the ultimate prize, gold. The Black Meteors are not going to Ghana just to be the whipping boys. But you will agree with me that it requires a lot of hardwork.
“So we are putting together a certain programme for them, and I want to be sure that by the time the Athens Games begin the Ghanaian team would be ready to deliver the goods. I am sure they are going to do very well.”
