Ghana defender John Paintsil has failed in his bid to qualify Santos FC to the South African top flight.
The Cape Town-based club have been ruled out of a playoff spot with a game remaining in the 1 st Division League.
Santos are currently sixth on the league log with 44 points but their inferior goal difference means they will be unable to qualify for the playoffs even if they beat Blackburn Rovers on Sunday.
Paintsil had joined the side in October 2013 with the hope of helping the side stage a return to the Premier Soccer League.
David Notoane's side however stuttered in their bid especially after failing to beat the already promoted Chippa United last weekend.
Two of Baroka FC, Black Leopards, Milano United and Jomo Cosmos are all in with a chance of promotion.
