Atletics : Odumosu and Oluwakemi will represent Nigeria at the World Championshipsindex

African 400m hurdles champion Ajoke Odumosu, newcomer Adekoye Oluwakemi and Nigeria 4x400m relay teams qualified for the World Championship in Warri Delta State Nigeria http://en.africatopsports.com/news/all-sports/athletics/page/2/#sthash.xyeDbmFO.dpuf on Friday.

In the meantime the women's 400m hurdles in which Odumosu (55.10) and Oluwakemi (55.30) attained the World championships. A qualifying standard was the best result of the meeting in Warri. For Odumosu it is her season best.

'I have been struggling with an injury since February. What my coach and I have done is to rely more on my strength and speed endurance rather than pure speed. At least that has got me past the world championships qualifiers,' said Odumosu a finalist at the 2012 London Olympics. http://en.africatopsports.com/news/all-sports/athletics/page/2/#sthash.xyeDbmFO.dpuf

20 year old Oluwakemi who is Nigeria's revelation this year, is no doubt the athlete of the meeting. She improved her career best from 56.02 run last month. Oluwakemi is glad to have kept her promise of attaining the stringent A qualifier for the World championships.

'This has been a great experience for me. I have always looked up to Ajoke as she is my senior. So competing with her in lane five and me in lane three was a good way to follow in her footsteps,' Oluwakemi said.

'At the start of the race Ajoke was just too fast for me but I kept my cool. My strategy was to close the gap as much as possible on the home straight. That is how I have improved my personal best,' Oluwakemi added.
